DietHobby YouTube Channel now Operational.

- POSTED ON: Jun 02, 2012

I am relieved to have the suspense over.
Today at about 12 noon, I was able to get back online at DietHobby's companion channel at YouTube.  The first thing I did was remove all the offensive Nazi material put up by the Hacker, and then I investigated the damage.  As I feared, all 312 of my uploaded videos were deleted.  YouTube has the ability to restore all 312 of them if it chooses to do so. This would be the best way, because this would save thousands of YT viewer comments and about 1.4 Million YT views, as well as the many online connections throughout the internet.  So, I'm going to keep trying to get their help.  Also, I'd like them to immediately remove the 3 community strikes against me at YT which were caused by the Hacker instead of having to wait 6 months for them to expire.   I don't want to wait a long time to have videos back here on my website.. especially the recipe videos, so if I don't get help, or promises of help, from YouTube by the end of June,  I'll do something to post replacement videos here on DietHobby.

In the meantime, any new videos that I make will be posted here.

This is great news!! It would help You Tube's faltering public persona if they restored your videos and removed the undeserved strikes.

Hi Mrs. Hwang, Yes, I'm very pleased to have the control of my YT channel returned to me. I think the "old" YouTube would help me, but the current Google/YouTube seems to be a strictly hands-off, automated process, and while I'm hoping for help, I'm not going to "hold my breath". Although it would be a lot of work to unload 312 videos again, the task of embedding them all here at this site again would be really challenging, and, of course, I have no way to reload them all onto the many, many other (mostly unknown) sites who liked my videos enough to embedded them there.

I am so very glad there is postivie movement. You Tube does seem to have problems wide spread. That is really unfortunate because I enjoy it much more than most things on TV. I have been watching UCTV Prime with Dr. Lustig as one example of a quality informative series. Hope they do not get hacked.

Thanks Karen. I can't see any reason why anything on UCTV would ever be hacked as doing it would bring absolutely no attention to a Hacker. Also they are a very large organization with many political connections, and probably many excellent technical safeguards.

So glad you have your channel back! I wish you all the best in getting your videos back up too, and I hope this never happens again. Keep up the good work! :)

Thanks Jessica. I hope that YouTube restores all of the original ones to my DietHobby YouTube Channel together with all their comments, viewcounts & annotations etc. Since the YouTube comments, viewcounts & annotations are not at all important here at the DietHobby website, I'm thinking about uploading copies of the video into a private storage area for this DietHobby Website. If I decide to do that, the videos will be available here fairly soon.

At the same time that you were hacked, my gmail was also hacked. I found a request from gmail to immediately change my password and informed me that they were able to stave off any damage to my gmail account. Gmail is on top of troubles and I appreciate their diligence and protection. So sorry you are still having difficulties and hopefully you have everything back to normal soon as I do enjoy Diet Hobby .

Thanks Alma, I'm sorry that happened to you. Being able to communicate online is rewarding but it does involve privacy risks. Changing one's e-mail password on occasion is a very good idea, just as a general safeguard. Like most people, I've been watchful online for signs of potential theft, but before this happened to me, I had never really considered the fact that online vandalism is also an issue.

@Alma maybe you got hacked because this site did! :( It's a possibility that he found your email which was entered into the site. @DietHobby A few things to change the security of this site. I am not sure if you or a program such as Wordpress designed the log in page, but first things first, I look in Firefox and it says that the connection to the website is not encrypted. It is important to use SSL right away when creating websites like these. If you don't, a few bad things happen. Your myWOT goes down a lot, but most importantly, it puts users at risk. That's because the internet works by sending the internet signal from house to house to house, all the way to where the website is hosted. If I live in Canada, the internet signal must go to about every house to the south of me in Canada, down to every house north of you in the USA. Without a secure connection, a hacker might use the signal that bounced to his house to find out what the logged in user is sending, add information to what he is sending, then, continue to send it. With SSL, when the hacker gets that information, my computer and your website have already come up with a code to use, and the hacker gets a jumbled mess. Next problem is passwords. When I registered, you were not using the all important tag. When you use it, the letters get blocked out as stars or circles. When you don't they appear as normal. This could be another security precaution to take. Final thing is email confirmations. Instead of having the email address you want to confirm in the address, create a random number (or word) to assign to each user who hasn't confirmed their email yet, and send them this number. This makes it much harder for people to register themselves even if they didn't get a confirmation email. Hope this helps!
